(Sheridan, Wyo) Goldwind Americas is providing free training in Wyoming for anyone interested about employment in the wind power industry. Goldwind Americas, a division of Chinese turbine manufacturer Goldwind, is in the planning stages of a project to install hundreds of turbines in Carbon County.
The approximately 200 new jobs created by the project will by no means make up for the massive layoffs in the coal industry, but it could provide a career path for some ex-miners.
“If we can tap into that market and also help out folks that might be experiencing some challenges in the work force today, I think that it can be a win-win situation,” said Goldwind Americas chief executive David Halligan, in a telephone interview with the New York Times. He added that many of the mechanical and electrical skills required in mining were transferable to working with wind turbines.
