(Sheridan, Wyo) The Sheridan & Johnson County chapter of the Wyoming Archaeological Society will have their monthly meeting this Thursday, December 7 at the Holiday Inn – Sheridan Convention in La Gourmet Room. The speaker will be Michael T. Bies, owner of O. W. Heritage Research L. C. in Worland, Wyoming. Dinner starts at 6:00 pm, and the presentation will begin at 7:00 pm.
Mr. Bies will be presenting his research on the Historic Context for Dinwoody Rock Art. Dinwoody is a rock art tradition characterized by distinctive animal and human figures. The style is found in the Big Horn and Wind River basins and is named for Dinwoody Canyon where it was first documented.
According to the Wyoming Archaeology Society, “Michael Bies is the owner and principle investigator for O W Heritage Research L. C., a Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business organized as a Limited Liability Corporation in Wyoming. A strong focus of his organization is the identification, documentation, and analysis of petroglyphs and pictographs. An additional interest is the occupation and use of rock shelters. Mr. Bies started his corporation in 2012 after his retirement from the Bureau of Land Management having served as a cultural resource specialist for more than 30 years in Wyoming.”
